Gallup – Calvin Hall North Wing Renovation

Project Description
This project will renovate the north wing of Calvin Hall at UNM–Gallup, transforming aging science laboratories and instructional spaces into modern learning environments that better prepare students for careers in science, healthcare, and other high-demand fields.
The renovation will modernize biology, chemistry, and geology laboratories; update classrooms and faculty workspaces; improve building systems; enhance the auditorium; and create flexible, collaborative spaces that encourage student engagement and hands-on learning.
Calvin Hall's existing laboratories and classrooms were designed for earlier instructional models and no longer fully support the technology, equipment, and experiential learning expected in today's STEM programs. Modernizing these spaces will give students greater opportunities to learn by doing—building the practical skills and experience they need to continue their education or enter the workforce.
The project will support student recruitment, retention, and degree completion by providing high-quality facilities where students can learn, collaborate, and prepare for their futures. Updated laboratories and classrooms will strengthen STEM and healthcare education pathways while expanding opportunities for experiential learning, research, and workforce preparation.
The improvements will also enhance UNM–Gallup's ability to support research, pursue grants, and develop academic and community partnerships that create opportunities for students and contribute to the regional economy.
For students throughout northwestern New Mexico, the Calvin Hall renovation represents an investment in greater access to high-quality STEM education close to home—and in the skilled workforce New Mexico needs for the future.
Additional Background
Calvin Hall is a critical academic resource at UNM–Gallup, housing laboratories and instructional spaces that support science education. Many of these facilities have aged and no longer provide the modern, flexible environments needed to fully support contemporary STEM teaching and learning.
As a rural-serving institution, UNM–Gallup provides access to higher education for students throughout northwestern New Mexico. Modernizing Calvin Hall will help ensure those students have access to contemporary laboratories, classrooms, technology, and collaborative learning environments that support academic achievement and career preparation.
The renovation will strengthen educational pathways in science, healthcare, and related fields while helping UNM–Gallup recruit and retain students. By investing in modern STEM learning environments, GO Bond 3 will help prepare more students for further education and careers while supporting the workforce needs of northwestern New Mexico and the state.
