2026 General Obligation Bonds

GO Bond 3 would invest in New Mexico's future through higher education
This November, New Mexico voters will have an opportunity to make a lasting investment in the state's future by supporting General Obligation Bond 3 for Higher Education—a measure that strengthens colleges and universities, expands educational opportunities, and prepares the next generation of New Mexico's workforce.
General Obligation (GO) Bonds have long been a trusted way to fund important capital improvements across the state without increasing taxes. For decades, New Mexicans have overwhelmingly supported these investments because they deliver modern learning environments, strengthen local economies and help students succeed.

This year's GO Bond 3 would provide more than $351 million for higher education projects across New Mexico, including $126.1 million for The University of New Mexico and its branch campuses. Those investments will modernize classrooms and laboratories, improve student support services, expand workforce training and ensure students have access to the facilities they need to thrive.
Among the most transformative projects is the construction of a new UNM School of Medicine education and research facility. The state-of-the-art building will help educate and train the physicians, researchers and healthcare professionals New Mexico needs while supporting groundbreaking medical research that benefits communities across the state.
GO Bond 3 would also fund critical improvements at UNM's branch campuses, helping expand educational opportunities close to home for students throughout New Mexico. Projects include:
- Renovating the north wing of Calvin Hall at UNM-Gallup
- Creating a centralized Student Services and Success Center at UNM-Los Alamos
- Renovating Pueblo Hall at UNM-Taos
- Transforming an existing facility into a dedicated instructional center for UNM-Valencia's Automotive Technology and Welding programs
These projects are designed to improve student success, expand workforce training and strengthen the campuses that serve communities across New Mexico.
The impact extends well beyond higher education. Passage of GO Bond 3 is expected to support approximately 3,500 jobs in architecture, engineering, construction, education and related industries while generating hundreds of millions of dollars in economic activity across 25 cities in 22 counties. Local businesses, contractors and communities throughout New Mexico will benefit as these projects move forward.
Investing in modern educational facilities also helps New Mexico compete for new businesses and industries seeking a highly skilled workforce. Better facilities attract talented students and faculty, strengthen research and innovation, and help more graduates build their careers right here at home.
For students, the benefits are even more immediate. Modern classrooms, laboratories, learning spaces and student support centers provide the tools needed to succeed in today's rapidly changing economy and prepare graduates for high-demand careers in healthcare, science, technology, skilled trades and countless other fields.
New Mexicans have consistently recognized the value of these investments, approving higher education GO Bonds in every election since 2012 (2012, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2020, 2022, 2024). This year's proposal continues that tradition of investing in opportunity, workforce development and economic growth—all without increasing taxes.
By supporting GO Bond 3, voters will be investing not only in buildings, but in students, communities, healthcare, innovation and the long-term prosperity of New Mexico.
