Taos – Pueblo Hall Renovation
Project Description
This project will renovate Pueblo Hall, one of UNM–Taos' most heavily used instructional buildings, to ensure students continue to have access to reliable, comfortable, and high-quality learning environments while protecting and extending the life of an important campus facility.
The renovation will replace the building's aging roof and HVAC system, improve waterproofing, integrate mechanical systems with campus-wide building controls, and complete related interior improvements. Together, these upgrades will improve building reliability, energy efficiency, and occupant comfort while helping prevent disruptions to classes and campus operations.
Pueblo Hall provides essential classroom and technology-enabled learning spaces that support a broad range of academic and workforce-focused programs. Maintaining a dependable instructional environment is especially important for students pursuing degrees and certificates in areas aligned with regional workforce needs, including healthcare, business, and skilled trades.
The project will support student recruitment, retention, and completion by ensuring that aging building systems do not become barriers to teaching and learning. More efficient and reliable systems will also help UNM–Taos better manage operating costs and protect the state's existing investment in the facility.
By modernizing Pueblo Hall, GO Bond 3 will help preserve a critical educational resource for northern New Mexico while ensuring UNM–Taos can continue providing students with the education and workforce training they need to pursue careers and contribute to their communities.
Additional Background
Pueblo Hall is one of the most utilized instructional facilities at UNM–Taos and serves students across a wide range of academic and workforce programs. Its classrooms and technology-enabled spaces are central to the campus's ability to deliver foundational courses, degree programs, and career-focused education.
Several of the building's major systems have reached the end of their useful life and require replacement to maintain reliable operation. Addressing the roof, waterproofing, HVAC, and building controls now will help prevent more costly problems in the future, improve energy performance, and extend the useful life of the facility.
The renovation represents both an investment in students and responsible stewardship of an existing public asset. By maintaining a safe, efficient, and dependable instructional environment, the project will help UNM–Taos continue preparing students for further education and careers that support the workforce needs of northern New Mexico.
